ZAGAT RATINGS AND REVIEWS
Like a library, the rooms in this Midtown boutique hotel are "full of peace and tranquility" (though "tiny") and each one is dedicated to a subject (love, dinosaurs, romance, etc.); bookworms find it "intimate and friendly" with "complimentary breakfast in the AM and wine and cheese in the evening" along with a "fancy espresso machine" in the lounge, not to mention "superb service" that extends to rainy days, when "a doorman offers umbrellas" - though you might "not want to leave" this refuge in any weather.
Time Out New York: Visitor Information Librarians are hot. Or at least the staff is, at this literary-themed boutique hotel. More than 6,000 books were handpicked from indie-fave bookstore the Strand to match the themes of the rooms they adorn. Even before you enter, you'll see quotes from famous authors inscribed in the sidewalk. Lodgings are organized according to the Dewey decimal system and furnished by theme (Botany, Fairy Tales). The Love Room is strewn with rose petals; Casanova's autobiography sits on a bedside table in the Erotica Room. Rates include breakfast, evening wine-and-cheese gatherings in the second-floor Reading Room, and access to the mahogany-lined writer's den (which has a tiny terrace and a glowing fireplace). Hotel Giraffe, a sister hotel, embodies modern European style 15 blocks south. Hotel services Cell-phone rental. Complimentary breakfast, pass to nearby gym, and wine and cheese every evening. Ticket desk. Valet. Video library. Room services CD player. High-speed Internet. VCR.
OCregister By GARY A. WARNER REGISTER TRAVEL EDITOR Sleep in the stacks: Library Hotel, New York City. Each of the rooms in this hotel near Grand Central Terminal is themed to a category in the Dewey Decimal System. (That's the one used by librarians to order the stacks.) In your room are dozens of tomes about that subject. Just in case you aren't in the mood to leaf through several thousand pages of, say, oceanography, there's a huge general library off the lobby. With thousands of titles on hand, it can be hard to leave the hotel and get out on the town.
